Transforming Futures for 50 Years: Benchmark School in the 1970s

Benchmark School is celebrating 50 years of transforming children's futures. We are proud to share the first major celebration of our 50th Anniversary year. As COVID has curtailed our plans to gather and celebrate in person, we have turned to the medium of video. Through video, we are exploring and sharing our past from the time of our founding to present day. 

We'll be producing five videos over the course of the year—one for each decade of Benchmark's history.

To begin, we have revisited our founding decade: the 1970s. Listen to our founder, Dr. Irene Gaskins, and other pivotal players in Benchmark's history, reveal the stories behind how our school came to be.

Edward Bloor, the award-winning author of many young adult novels, popped into a very exciting class gathering this week! The Powell/Brodo seventh grade language arts class just read his novel Tangerine, and were thrilled to have the chance to speak with Mr. Bloor about the book.
