New Faculty and Staff 2020-21

We are delighted to welcome so many new members of our Benchmark community! Get to know our new faculty and staff members below.

Trisha Adami

Trisha Adami is a Head Teacher in the middle school. Trisha spent the past seven years teaching elementary grades at military base schools in Japan, and most recently, in the UK. Before her time abroad, Trisha spent her student teaching and first year teaching at East Vincent Elementary School in Chester County.

Trisha obtained a BS in Elementary Education from West Chester University, where she also participated in the Student Teacher Educator 500 Award for the execution of a Spanish enrichment curriculum, and she has a master’s degree in Education/Teacher Leadership from the University of Phoenix.

Elizabeth Collins

Elizabeth Collins is a Co-Teacher in 6th grade, supporting Melissa Savage, and Head Teacher of 8th grade Social Studies. Elizabeth comes to Benchmark from Devon Preparatory School, where she taught English, and from Penn State Brandywine and Jefferson University, where she was an adjunct professor. She has experience as a high school English and writing teacher at a range of local independent schools. As a tutor, she is known for her ability to support students with executive functioning issues and learning differences.

Elizabeth earned a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA in Writing/English from the University of Iowa.

Kelly Colton

Kelly Colton is a Co-Teacher in the lower school, working with Julie Mattaliano. Kelly spent the past several years as an assistant teacher at A Child’s Place in Plymouth Meeting, and prior to that, she served as an after-school tutor/counselor at The Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square.

Kelly obtained her undergraduate degree from James Madison University.

Alexa Eger

Alexa Eger is an Intern on the Child and Family Support Services team. Most recently, Alexa completed a Support Net Social Work Internship at Wayne Senior Center.

Alexa graduated from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a BFA in photography with a focus in Creative Arts Therapy. She is currently completing a Masters in Social Service at Bryn Mawr College.

Rebecca Hyde

Rebecca Hyde is a Co-Teacher supporting Alexis Caporizzo in language arts, and Head Teacher in science in the middle school. Rebecca comes to Benchmark from St. Cecilia School, where she was a 7th grade English/Language Arts teacher.

Rebecca is a recent graduate of Chestnut Hill College, where she obtained degrees in both English Literature and Secondary Education/English, with a specialization in Special Education. Rebecca is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership at Chestnut Hill College.

Trey Milby '12

Trey Milby '12 is a Co-Teacher working with Nicole Scali, teaching Language Arts and Gym. No stranger to Benchmark School, Trey is a graduate of the class of 2012, and spent several summers as a Benchmark Camp counselor. Trey’s transformative experiences at Benchmark as a student and a camp counselor inspired him to pursue a career in education.

Trey is a recent graduate from Susquehanna University with a degree in Early Education.

Peter Tarnoff

Peter Tarnoff is a Co-Teacher in the lower school, working with Susan North. Prior to Benchmark, Peter had been serving as a substitute teacher in several Philadelphia-area school districts, including Tredyffrin/Easttown, Lower Merion, and Radnor. Before his return to Philadelphia, Peter was teaching fourth grade at the Riverview School in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. In addition to being a classroom teacher, Peter is a certified snowboarding instructor.

Peter has a BS in Elementary Education from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.

Sarah Witalec


Sarah Witalec is a Co-Teacher in the lower school, working with Dr. Heather Warley. Sarah has most recently been a substitute teacher in the Philadelphia School District, following her time as a student teacher at Avon Grove Elementary School.

Sarah earned a BS in Education, with focuses on literacy and creative writing, from West Chester University.

Edward Bloor, the award-winning author of many young adult novels, popped into a very exciting class gathering this week! The Powell/Brodo seventh grade language arts class just read his novel Tangerine, and were thrilled to have the chance to speak with Mr. Bloor about the book.
