Fall Reopening Plan

Dear Benchmark Families,

As you know, we have been hard at work on our greatest goal of the moment: bringing our Benchmark community back to campus safely. Today, I’m pleased to share our plan for reopening Benchmark School.

We are planning to hold classes on campus five days per week for our students this fall. Below, you will find a link to all of the details that will support this plan including a virtual option for those who cannot join us on campus. Additionally, we have also created two other alternate scenarios demonstrating what school will look like if circumstances require us to switch to a hybrid or fully online model of instruction. These plans were informed by thousands of hours from a dedicated team of administrators, health experts, faculty, staff, and volunteers committed to reviewing policies, protocols, parent feedback, faculty feedback, and best practices. Guidance from the Center for Disease Control, the CHOP PolicyLab, local and state health departments, the National Association of Independent Schools, the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools, the Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and other medical experts has proven invaluable as we wade through myriad decisions. We are grateful to all who have given their entire summers to support this effort.

Highlights of Our Reopening Plan:

  • Five days of instruction
  • Support for students who require or choose online instruction
  • Full academic program
  • Enhanced social and emotional supports
  • New technological supports and platforms to enhance learning, access, and communication
  • Comprehensive cleaning and hygiene protocols
  • Live streamed classroom lessons
  • Cohort groupings to promote safety

I have been witness to the tremendous dedication and thought demonstrated by our Benchmark teachers and staff who created these plans. I believe that when you review these materials, you too will see the evidence of the love and care that each individual has for our students and our community. Our desire to deliver on our educational promise while keeping everyone safe is writ large.

Here is our Reopening Plan for Fall 2020.

I’m looking forward to getting to know you and beginning this transformational year with you and your children.

Sincerely,

Chris Hancock
Head of School
