Throughout Benchmark’s more than 50-year history, a pillar of our national preeminence in serving students who learn differently has been the belief that education is a cooperative enterprise. I encourage you to reach out, say hello, ask as many questions as you need, and share any wisdom along the way to finding us. We are eager to listen and learn more about your child’s and family’s journey.

At Benchmark School, you will discover that our exclusive Benchmark Approach goes beyond basic reading programs to reach the whole child. This unique approach, set within a warm and supportive community, teaches children how to be critical thinkers with excellent emotional, social, and decision-making skills. It is the product of half a century of practitioner research and hands-on experience. We meet children where they are, and create personalized instruction for each student. We have amassed a wide array of tools and strategies to scaffold student success. Our students credit the skills they learned here and the “tools in their toolbox” as key contributors to their success in learning and life.

In fact, the merits of our approach are best displayed through the success of our graduates. We prepare our students through an intentional progression from 1st through 8th grade for the lifelong pursuit of intellectual autonomy. In doing so, they matriculate to competitive independent and public schools and are ready to succeed far beyond the schoolhouse. Coupled with their self-awareness as learners and strong self-advocacy skills, their ability to think for themselves, learn, unlearn, relearn, and examine critically are hallmarks of a successful Benchmark alum soon to inherit a rapidly changing globalized world. 

Buoyed by social-emotional support embedded throughout the day, and a robust after-school and athletics program, we strive to prepare our students to move confidently beyond Benchmark. To ensure the “right fit” placement for your child, our dedicated Transition Team works closely with you on selecting the best high school experience for your child.
